DES MOINES, Iowa (July 14, 2021)—EMC Insurance Companies (EMC) has signed two pledges to further demonstrate its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) strategies–the Employers for Pay Equity Consortium's White House Equal Pay Pledge and the Iowa State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Pledge.
White House Equal Pay Pledge
The Employers for Pay Equity Consortium is comprised of companies that understand the importance of ensuring that all individuals are compensated equitably for equal work and experience and have an equal opportunity to contribute and advance in the workplace. By signing the White House Equal Pay Pledge, EMC commits to analyzing gender pay annually, reviewing hiring and promotion processes and taking steps to reduce unconscious bias, among other efforts.
"EMC is pleased to sign on to this pledge in recognition that business plays a crucial role in reducing the national pay gap," said Beth Nigut, EMC Executive Vice President – Chief People Officer. "EMC believes its success in the future centers on having a diverse workforce, inclusive culture, and a strong presence in various communities and markets."
Young Lawyers Division's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Pledge
The Iowa State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division created its pledge to increase inclusion within Iowa's legal profession, with the goal of making the profession more diverse and equitable. The pledge consists of voluntary, tangible actions companies and firms can take internally and externally.
"The EMC attorneys in our Corporate Legal, Claims and Compliance departments look forward to participating, especially finding ways for our lawyers to contribute to EMC’s overall DE&I efforts both within our company and out in our local communities," said Todd Strother, EMC Executive Vice President – Chief Legal Officer. "We value diversity in our workforce, workplace and communities."
